How to Apply
- Visit https://indianconsularservices.mea.gov.in/ and select:
- Country: New Zealand
- Mission: New Zealand – Auckland
- Service: the relevant service (e.g. Certificate of Registration of Death/ Certificate of Registration of Birth)
- Read "Information at a Glance before Apply", then click "Consular Service application form online".
- Register or log in, then complete and submit the online application.
- Upload the documents listed for your specific service (see the section below). If the website does not request a document that is listed as required and is applicable to you, combine it with another document you are uploading.
- Once the online scrutiny is completed, an email will be received. Book an appointment through the CGI website https://www.cgiauckland.gov.in/apt/ and select "Other Miscellaneous Applications – Counter No. 1".
- Visit the Consulate General of India, Auckland on the booked date with all original documents and the supporting copies listed for your service.

Certificate of Registration of Death of an Indian National
The death of an Indian national in New Zealand must be registered with the Consulate General of India, Auckland at the earliest opportunity. The application is to be submitted by the next of kin.
Fee: Issued free of charge.
Documents required:
- Completed and signed Miscellaneous Consular Services application form, filled in by the next of kin.
- Original Indian passport of the deceased, for cancellation.
- Original Death Certificate issued by Births, Deaths & Marriages – Department of Internal Affairs, New Zealand.
- Original cremation or burial certificate.
- Coroner's report, if applicable.
- Letter from the next of kin stating their full name, address and telephone number. If no next of kin resides in New Zealand, a signed no-objection / authority letter from the family in India is required instead.
- Photograph of the deceased, if available.
All documents must be submitted in original together with one set of photocopies.
B) Certificate of Registration of Birth of a Child of Indian Nationals
A child born in New Zealand to Indian national parents may have their birth registered with the Consulate General of India, Auckland. Registration of birth is a prerequisite for applying for the child's Indian passport.
Step 1 — Online registration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India:

Step 2 — Submit the application on the website https://indianconsularservices.mea.gov.in as mentioned above
Documents:
- Printout of the completed online Registration of Birth form submitted via the MHA portal.
- Completed and signed Miscellaneous Consular Services application form, signed by both parents.
- Original New Zealand Birth Certificate of the child, showing both parents' names.
- Original Indian passports of both parents, with photocopies of the bio-pages.
- Two recent colour passport-size photographs of the child (2" × 2").
- Evidence of the parents' immigration status in New Zealand — copy of current and valid NZ visa, NZ Permanent Residence visa, or NZ Resident Card (as applicable).
- Declaration by the parents confirming that a New Zealand passport has not been issued to the child.
- Payment proof (modes of payment).
