General Information

General Information

All foreign nationals require a visa to travel to India. There is no facility for visa on arrival in India, so the appropriate visa must be obtained before entering India by air, sea or land.

Please go through this page carefully for a proper understanding of the visa procedure, to ensure that your visa application is complete in every respect. This will help in easy and correct submission of the application in the first instance and avoid unnecessary delay in processing. An incomplete application is liable to be rejected.

Visas are valid with effect from the date of issue, not the date of travel. It is therefore advised to apply for a visa closer to the travel date.

Submission of Application

Book an appointment through the online appointment system, and then visit the Consulate with:

  • A printout of the duly filled and signed visa application

  • The prescribed documentation

  • Two photographs

  • One self-addressed pre-paid return courier bag with tracking facility (for sending the passport back)

Address:

Consulate General of India,
Level-14, 151 Queen Street,
Auckland 1010.

The Consulate General of India will not accept any responsibility if the courier is lost, misplaced, damaged or delayed.

Important Note

Applicants are advised not to book air tickets without first obtaining a visa for India. Merely booking air tickets cannot be a ground for the issue of a visa.
