Life Certificates & Attestation of Pension Papers

A Life Certificate is required by pensioners to continue receiving their pension. The applicant is normally expected to appear in person at the Consulate General of India, Auckland, bringing their passport to establish identity. If personal appearance is not possible, see note 2 below for the apostille route.

Fees:

  • Life Certificate for pension purposes (Indian and non-Indian passport holders): issued free of charge.
  • Life Certificate for purposes other than pension (Indian and non-Indian passport holders): NZ$21.

Documents required:

  1. Completed and signed Miscellaneous Consular Services application form.
  2. Life Certificate form (an alternative format is also acceptable). If the applicant cannot attend the Consulate in person, the Life Certificate must instead be notarised by a Notary Public (www.notarypublic.org.nz) — not JP-attested — and then apostilled/authenticated by the Department of Internal Affairs (www.dia.govt.nz/apostille). See the DIA website for the authentication procedure.
  3. Copies of first and last pages of your current passport (Original to be carried to Consulate for verification).
  4. Copy of your current and valid New Zealand visa.
  5. One passport-size photograph (taken within the last 6 months), pasted on the application form.
  6. Payment proof, only if applying for purposes other than pension — fee of NZ$21 (modes of payment). No fee is required for pension Life Certificates.

Please note: Digitally signed copies cannot be attested.
