On 2 November 2026, Shri Rushikesh Patel, Hon'ble Minister of
Energy & Petrochemicals, Panchayat & Rural Housing and Legislative &
Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Gujarat, and the accompanying
delegation visited the Contact Energy Ohurua Battery 1 project site at
Glenbrook. The visit was facilitated by the Consulate General of
India, Auckland, under the guidance of H.E. Ms Muanpuii Saiawi, High
Commissioner of India to New Zealand.

The visit offered first-hand insights into New Zealand's energy
sector, including renewable energy integration, grid-scale battery
energy storage, electricity transmission and distribution, and energy
transition initiatives. The delegation interacted with project
representatives on New Zealand's approach to enhancing grid
resilience, supporting a higher share of renewable energy and ensuring
a reliable and sustainable power supply, and discussed developments in
energy storage technologies and their role in the transition to a
low-carbon economy.
