Carrying of Mortal Remains

Certificate required for transportation of body/ashes back to India (this service is free of charge)

There is no need to take an appointment. Applicants can visit the Consulate on any working day between 10.00 AM -12.30 PM. The service will be on first come first serve basis.


Please supply the following documents:

1.           Completed and signed application form for Miscellaneous Consular Services (to be filled by next of kin).

2.           Passport of the deceased for cancellation.

3.           A photograph of the deceased.

4.           A letter from next of kin along with copy of his/her passport.

5.           Original Death Certificate.

6.            Original Embalmer's Certificate (or Funeral Parlour Certificate).

7.           Itinerary and details of person taking the body/ashes back to India (if there is someone accompanying the body/ashes) (if available).

8.            Details (name, address, contact no., e-mail) of the person receiving the mortal remains in India.

9.            Original Cremation Certificate, with Apostille Stamp from The Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Government of New Zealand. (For information please visit the link: MFAT) with one photocopy (required only if ashes are being transported).

10.         All documents must be submitted in original along with one set of photocopies.

11.         A self-addressed courier envelope for return of documents by the Consulate. Separate envelopes are to be provided for multiple applications.
